An adult Peer Mentoring Program (PMP) addresses the substance use and mental health needs of Regional Center clients by training them to become mentors to their peers with the goal of increasing self-efficacy, belonging, and improving self-confidence as well as creating links to local recovery groups.
Designed to build community, meetings are 1hr in duration once a week in Hawthorn or Culver City. Once a month we take the participants on pro-social outings where people with disabilities engage in fun, safe, and sober leisure activities based on the group’s interests.
The approaches we use are trauma informed and ensures sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and experiences. We include art and cinema therapy, role play, somatic methods like breathwork and yoga as well as experiential learning while incorporating a combination of evidenced based practices.
Sober State is the proud recipient of the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) grant from the State of California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) under the "Substance Use Delivery Expansion Project" for peer mentoring services making this service available at no cost for those eligible.
Please email us at pmp@sober-state.com if you cannot find an answer to your question regarding PMP.
